WHEN GOD SPEAKS – Part 6

Ephesians 5:17; Matthew 7:21

Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven.”  Matt. 7:21 (HCSB)

(14)  Colossians 3:15; Philippians 4:6-7.  God’s peace is another indicator that I am making the right choice.  His peace is to rule (that is, to govern or umpire) in my heart.  Uneasiness is often – (though not always) an indication that I still have doubts or that the direction I’m headed is wrong.  I have personally found that a deep sense of God’s peace always accompanies a good decision.  This peace is much deeper than any human emotion based on circumstances or self-gratification.

(15)  Hebrews 11:24-26.  These verses speak about the principle Moses used for deciding between the “pleasures of Egypt” and the cause of Christ.  The first were only temporary, the other was eternal.  The first might have provided earthly pleasure, but the other was of “greater value.”  The statement has been made, “Never sacrifice the permanent on the altar of the immediate.”  That’s the principle Moses lived by, and it ought to be for every Christian.

For six days we have been taking note of the principles found in God’s Word which will guide us in all the decisions of life.  I have used these for making all kinds of choices.  Some have been big, others small.  But I have never come across a choice to which these principles did not apply.  Put them to the test – see if you can think of any decisions in life which are not to be guided by at least one of these principles.

Holy living is a life of right choices.  It is, in fact, following the whole will of God.  We saw that God wants to make His will known to us (Ephesians 5:17), and we saw that doing God’s will is the requirement for entering heaven (Matthew 7:21).  Let us simply “trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus!”  He has given us every thing we need to know in order to discern and do His will.
