THE HOLY SPIRIT CAME AT PENTECOST – Part 4

As A Ratifying Oil

1 John 2:20, 27

“And as for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But just as His true and genuine anointing teaches you about all things, so remain in Him as you have been taught. (BSB)

Anointing oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit.  One of its uses was for inaugurating men for ministry and objects for service.  It was also used for soothing and healing wounds.  And it was used for hospitality for weary and worn guests who needed to be freshened up.

The very Names “Christ” and “Messiah” mean “Anointed One”.

Pentecost brought to us an anointing for ministry and service.

The Holy Spirit heals us when we are sick in mind or spirit or body.  His anointing protects us from error as the dark forces try to infiltrate the Church, and enables Christians to know the truth, and He never makes a mistake if we’ll listen to him.  His anointing Presence is essential to the Church.

In the Old Testament only kings, priests, and prophets were anointed, but under the New Covenant, the anointing of the Holy Spirit is the privilege of us all.

Have you the anointing of the Holy Spirit?

                        “Lo, the great King of kings,

                        With healing in His wings,

                        To every captive soul

                        A full deliverance brings.”

                        “Hover o’er me, Holy Spirit

                        Bathe my trembling heart and brow;

                        Fill me with Thy hallowed presence,

                        Come, O come and fill me now.”
